A Little About Me
My Practice
My approach to therapy is to tailor our time together to you and your needs. You are unique, and your therapy sessions should be too! I work with a multi-modality approach, so every session will be different and depend on what you bring each time. Equally, if you like structure, we can do that too. You drive our sessions.
I'm here to help you work through your hardest thoughts, to navigate the stresses and strains of life, and to put those limiting beliefs away. I want you to feel empowered to make the changes and take the steps you want to, and to feel good about doing so.
One of my specialist areas is women's health, focusing on the chronic conditions which affect so many. I have a very strong focus on endometriosis and fibroids and am proud to be expanding into other areas including PMDD and PCOS. I can help you understand and process your diagnosis, your pain, your treatment, the potential consequences of surgery, and the impact these conditions have on you physically, mentally and emotionally.
For the last two years, I worked with an agency specialising in substance use and addiction, with those in active addiction or recovery, and also with families of those in addiction. This allowed me to understand not only how addiction affects the person, but also how those around them are affected.
In addiction to women's health and addiction, I also work with clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, grief and relationship issues.
What I'm Like
I am an approachable, empathetic and friendly therapist, and want to hear what you want to talk about. Our work will be collaborative, if there is something you want to explore but are unsure how to start, I will help you open that up. Equally, if you want to stop exploring something, we will stop - you being comfortable is my priority. I want you to be authentically you, so bring your whole self to our sessions. Therapy isn't just for the heavy side - bring your achievements to our sessions too, and we can celebrate you, together!
What Can You Expect From My Sessions
My sessions are relaxed to make you feel comfortable and at ease. Think of them as a chat, but one where you can talk about anything and everything, knowing there is no judgement and you will be heard and listened to.
I work with person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT approaches, and weave these seamlessly and effortlessly into our conversation. Some sessions will be a mix of all three, some sessions will be purely person-centred. As an example, we will chat about your experiences and how they make you feel in the present, how the past impacted you and what experiences stand out for you, and look at how we can reframe your thoughts to make them feel more positive for you.
I will guide and ask questions, gently challenge your limiting thoughts and beliefs, help you pin point where those thoughts may have come from, and help you feel encouraged to make changes.
Our first session
Starting therapy can be overwhelming, so the first session will be us getting to know each other. Some people feel a sense of relief to have time just for them, so will speak about everything they want to work on, while others may want to only think about what happened that day. However you want to start is up to you. We would not work through anything too heavy in our first session, unless you would like to! This is all about you sharing what you want and getting comfortable with therapy.
