A Little About Me
My Practice
I’m a psychodynamic counsellor/psychotherapist, working in both the NHS and private practice. I originally trained as a mental health nurse and have over 12 years’ experience in the field of mental health.
What’s your story? I’m curious about all that has brought you to this point. I believe each person’s story is unique yet also connects us with others. Human experience is complex, and there’s never just one lens to look through.
Psychodynamic therapy helps us explore patterns in how you feel, relate, and behave — especially those outside of your awareness — and how these affect you in the present. I hold in mind the whole person: both mind and body. I also pay attention to how your history may be carried in your body, often in ways not yet put into words.
I see my role as working closely with you — staying alongside you in the process while also helping us notice what’s happening for you, both consciously and unconsciously. Together, we’ll explore early relationships, attachments, and cultural or intergenerational histories, and how these shape how you experience yourself and others today.
What I'm Like
Clients often describe me as warm, grounded, and thoughtful. I offer a calm, containing space where you can feel safe to explore what’s on your mind and in your body — including things that might feel difficult to name or fully understand yet.
I work relationally, which means I pay close attention not only to what’s happening in your life, but also to what may emerge between us in the therapy. Sometimes these moments help us make sense of deeper patterns that repeat in relationships or in how you experience yourself emotionally.
While I’m empathic and supportive, I also challenge when needed — helping you notice what’s happening both on the surface and underneath it. Together, we can begin to bring unconscious patterns into awareness and move toward meaningful, lasting change.
What Can You Expect From My Sessions
“If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
This quote captures something important about how I see therapy. I offer a space where we can be curious together — where we can think about what’s going on for you now, and also explore the deeper patterns and past experiences that may be shaping things in the present.
We’ll take time to understand how you’ve coped — physically and psychologically — not with judgment, but with care and curiosity. Even ways of being that now feel painful or stuck often made sense at one time. We’ll also pay attention to the body, which can hold feelings and stories that haven’t yet been spoken.
Some sessions may feel challenging, especially as we begin to touch into painful or unconscious material. This is a natural part of the process. My role is to stay alongside you, to help hold things when they feel hard, and to think with you about what’s emerging — both in words and beneath them.
Most of all, our work happens within a relationship that is safe, contained and respectful — a space where all parts of you are welcome.
Our first session
It’s completely natural to feel unsure, nervous, or even hesitant when starting therapy — and whether or not you choose to continue, just turning up is already a meaningful first step.
In our first session, we’ll begin wherever you are. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out. It’s a space to explore what brings you here and to get a feel for whether the work, and the relationship, feels right for you.
We may begin to notice how certain patterns, emotions, or past experiences emerge — even in the room between us.
If you decide to continue, we’ll agree on a regular weekly time. This consistent frame helps create the safety and structure needed for deeper work to unfold.
