A Little About Me

My Practice
My work is grounded in the belief that lasting change comes from understanding, not just symptom management. I take an integrative approach rooted in psychodynamic theory, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, narrative therapy, attachment-based work, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Schema Therapy depending on what each person needs. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all model. Each client brings a different history, nervous system, and relationship to their own pain, so the work has to be shaped around them rather than the other way around. In sessions, I aim to create a space where people feel genuinely safe enough to look at the parts of themselves they've had to protect or hide, often for good reason. I hold both compassion and honesty as necessary. Growth rarely happens in a space that's only comfortable, and it rarely happens in a space that isn't safe either.
What I'm Like
I'd describe myself as collaborative rather than directive. I don't see myself as the expert on someone else's life, I see myself as someone trained to help them access their own understanding of it, so sessions tend to feel more like a joint exploration than a prescribed process. That said, I'll be direct when it matters. If I notice a pattern repeating or see someone avoiding something important, I'll name it rather than wait for them to find their own way there. I lean more reflective than lighthearted in general, especially given the depth of what most clients bring into the room. But I'm not rigidly serious either. Humor shows up naturally when it fits, especially once trust is established, because I think being able to laugh at the absurdity of being human is sometimes part of healing, not a distraction from it. I try to read what each client needs in a given session rather than sticking to one fixed tone throughout.

What Can You Expect From My Sessions

My sessions tend to be more fluid and explorative than tightly structured, especially early on. I think the most useful material often surfaces when someone isn't being steered toward a predetermined agenda. That said, once we've identified what someone is working toward, whether that's processing a specific trauma, understanding a recurring pattern, or navigating a life transition, I'll bring more structure and intentionality to how we move through the material. I engage actively rather than sitting back passively. I ask questions that invite reflection, I'll offer observations about what I'm noticing in the moment, and I'm not afraid to gently challenge something if it seems useful. I see my role as holding both the space and the thread, tracking where a session started and where it's headed, even when the conversation feels meandering, so that nothing gets lost and everything eventually connects back to what matters.

Our first session

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you in, some background on your history, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy, but there's no pressure to have it all figured out or to share more than feels comfortable on day one. Some people come in with a clear issue they want to work on, others just know something feels off and want space to explore it, both are completely fine starting points. I also see this first meeting as a chance for you to get a feel for whether I'm the right fit for you. Therapy works best when there's a genuine sense of trust and connection, so I'd rather you leave the first session with a clearer sense of how I work than with immediate answers. By the end, we'll usually have a loose sense of direction, even if the specifics take shape over time.
