A Little About Me
My Practice
Have you ever felt a spark is inside you but somehow it is trapped or hidden away?
You're not alone. Maybe it was dismissed as 'too much' or 'not enough' when you were younger. Or perhaps society's expectations pushed it aside. These experiences can create intense feelings of anger, shame and fear. What if there is a way to reclaim that spark, to unleash your inner fire and use it to fuel change? That's where I come in. I offer a supportive space to help you unburden overwhelming feelings and rediscover your passion for making a difference. Whether you're an individual or an organisation involved in change-making, my trauma-informed approach and tailored services will help you create meaningful and sustainable change. Imagine reclaiming your power, healing old wounds, and living a life aligned with your values.
What I'm Like
As a woman of colour and a migrant, I understand the unique challenges that come with navigating multiple identities and cultural backgrounds. I also appreciate the difficulties in finding support catered to our own experiences. My practice was born out of a belief that we shouldn't be ashamed of our struggles and that we don't have to go through them alone. I strive to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore and process their experiences. I am committed to providing culturally responsive and sensitive therapy, and to promoting social justice in my practice. In addition to my professional qualifications and expertise, my personal experiences and identity inform my understanding of the unique challenges that my clients may face. I believe that this allows me to offer a unique perspective and understanding to my clients, which can be beneficial for their healing and growth process.
What Can You Expect From My Sessions
We all experience emotional and psychological distress. Yet, the meaning behind our distress and how it develops varies for each one of us. As a psychologist, I am here to support you in unveiling this. And place you in a better position to make informed changes in your life and live a more fulfilling one. I offer therapy from a social justice framework. Our work will consider the of role systemic structures in your experiences. And involve both personal, social, systemic, and political empowerment, where possible. My aim is to support you in gaining a say over your own life as well as influencing the world around you.
Our first session
The first session is unlike others. It is an opportunity to discuss in more depth, what's bringing you to therapy. We will explore when the problem(s) began and how they progressed over time. We will look at tracing a brief background history and what life experiences you've had. The aim is to develop a shared understanding of who you are. We will also talk through any hopes or worries you have about therapy and how I may be able to help. Plus, explore how larger societal structures shape who you are and your experiences. After this, we will consider if I am the right person for you and if you’d like to continue working with me. All sessions take place online via Zoom or on the phone. Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. We can discuss arranging sessions every other week if this is preferable.
