A Little About Me

My Practice
Most of us struggle with difficulties in our lives from time to time. Challenges are a normal part of life and often we manage them effectively, but there are times when we can feel overwhelmed or unable to cope as well as we might like. Psychological therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to better understand our difficulties and explore new perspectives, which can bring about growth and an improved sense of wellbeing. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and British Psychological Society. I am trained at doctoral level to deliver psychological therapy to address most mental health problems, stress related concerns, as well as interpersonal difficulties and adjustment to major life changes. I have over 10 years’ experience working in mental health services, supporting clients in the NHS, private healthcare and third sector organisations. I have a particular interest in working with depression, relationship difficulties, trauma and psychosexual problems.
What I'm Like
My style of therapy is relaxed, warm and supportive. Research shows that the most important element of any psychological therapy is the process of establishing a non-judgemental, trusting relationship based on mutual honesty and respect. I believe in therapy being client-centred and work with each person to reach an understanding of their needs and goals, as well as their preferred way of working towards them. As an integrative practitioner, I adapt my approach to suit each client, whilst also keeping in mind the evidence base for their presenting difficulties. I can draw on a broad range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), mindfulness based approaches and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

What Can You Expect From My Sessions

During our initial telephone consultation, we will briefly discuss your current difficulties and needs, and think together about what would be most helpful. You can also ask me any questions that would help you decide if you’d like to work together. If we think that we might be a good fit, we will agree to meet for regular sessions, typically at the same time each week. The first few therapy sessions will be an opportunity for us to explore your difficulties in detail and develop a shared understanding of what might be causing them, in the context of your life experiences. We will also discuss your hopes and goals for therapy and how we might work towards them. We will agree an initial number of sessions and review our plans regularly to ensure that our work continues to be of benefit to you.
